Traditional techniques, design elements and a contemporary approach-
This hands-on workshop is intended for those who wish to familiarize themselves with the patterns that are used as building blocks in a wide range of filigree designs, studying the craftsmanship of filigree jewelry, the key soldering techniques and characteristics of wire strands which are the building elements of filigree jewelry.
Also presenting a study on how contemporary jewelers are benefiting to combine traditional authentic techniques/design features with contemporary elements, colors and materials in their designs.
Biography Born in Tehran, Amir Sheikhvand currently lives and works in Toronto. After he finished his academic studies in biology and graphic designing he continued his study in Jewellery and graduate from Tehran’s Gold Institute in 1994.he has done apprenticeships with some of Iranian masters in the field of Malilekary-Filigree work- and Minakary- miniature enameling- .he is the pioneer of educating women in jewellery making in Iran. He resumed his practice in Canada in 1999 after several solo exhibits in Iranian and European galleries. He has used academic knowledge, traditional skills and adopted modern techniques in his contemporary art jewellery practice. He has executed numerous outstanding pieces of fine jewellery in one of the most prestigious jewellery design studios in Toronto. He is co-founder of The Artexe web marketing grant at Ontario Craft Council and helped emerging craft artist in Ontario. Sheikhvand’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in both juried and invitational exhibitions, in galleries such as: Vallry Art Gallery, McMaster museum of art, Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Arta Gallery, Tehran contemporary museum of Art and Harbor Front Center.
Workshop Cancellation Policy: If cancellation is made 7 days or more days prior to beginning workshop date, the workshop organizers will issue a full refund less a %25 processing fee. If cancellation is made less than 7 days prior to beginning of workshop, half of the workshop fee will be refunded. Cancellations of 2 days or less from beginning date of workshop, no refunds issued. If workshop is cancelled by the organizers, the entire workshop fee will be refunded.
